The Choice

The Floor You Choose Matters More Than How Hard You Work.

Two people do the same hour. One earns a penny, one a fortune. The only difference is where they stood.

This is the spine of the whole book. Effort is wildly overrated as a path to wealth, because the world is full of people working themselves into the ground for almost nothing. What decides your outcome is not how hard you push but where you're standing while you push. The same hour of work pays pennies on the basement floor and a fortune in the doorway upstairs.

So before you pour years of effort into anything, choose the floor with brutal care. A brilliant effort on a bad floor loses to a lazy effort on a great one. Pick your position first - the market, the gap, the doorway - and only then start working hard. Get the floor right and ordinary effort makes you rich. Get it wrong and heroic effort barely keeps you afloat.

The takeaway

Choose your position before you choose to work hard. The floor decides the outcome.
