MIDDLEMAN Is Out. And I Just Paid a Middleman to Sell It.

MIDDLEMAN is out.

Not "available soon". Not a waiting list. It is printed, it is on Kindle, and it is read aloud for anyone who would rather listen than sit down with it. You can hold it in your hands this week.

And here is the part I want to be straight about, because it is the most useful thing in this post. Until a few days ago I sold this book myself. My site, my file, my card processing, and almost the whole price stayed with me. I have just switched that off on purpose and handed the selling to Amazon, who will take their cut of every single copy.

A book about not being the one who gets cut out, now going through the biggest cut-taker on earth. Have a laugh. Then read why, because it is Law 24 doing exactly what Law 24 says it does.

Why I stopped selling it myself

When I sold it direct, I kept nearly all of the money. That is the number everyone looks at, and it is the wrong number.

Here is the number I actually care about: how many people who have never heard of me will ever type my name. Almost none. Nobody searches for a writer they have not heard of. They search for the problem. They search "how do I stop working for nothing", and they do it inside a shop that already has their card on file, their address saved, and one button that ends the decision.

I do not own that shop. I was never going to own that shop. I could spend the next ten years and a fortune trying to build a worse one.

You can keep the whole margin on a sale that never happens, or take a smaller slice of every sale that does. Only one of those pays for your kids.

That is the trade, stated plainly. Amazon takes a cut, and in exchange I get put in front of people I could not reach on my best day. A smaller slice of a far bigger room. A middleman charging me a toll to stand somewhere I could not stand alone.

Which is the whole book. I did not write forty-eight laws about doorways and then pretend I was above paying at one.

The mistake most people make with this

The mistake is thinking this is a surrender. It is not. Read Law 24 properly and you will see the condition attached.

You go through the big doorway for the thing it is genuinely better at than you, and you keep for yourself the thing it will never give you. Amazon is better than me at finding strangers. Amazon will never give me the relationship with those strangers. So the book goes there, and the free first floor, the writing, the list, the thing that follows a reader for years, stays here.

Use the middleman for reach. Never let the middleman own the relationship. If you take one operating idea out of this post, take that one, and go and look at where your own work is sold.

What is actually in it

Forty-eight laws, seven floors, and a sealed forty-ninth that does not have a staircase.

The Building is the idea the whole book hangs on. The basement sells hands and hours. The middle floors take a slice of what passes through. The top owns the doorway itself. Two people work the identical hour on different floors and one goes home with pennies and the other with a fortune, and almost nobody is ever shown the staircase between them.

It is not a motivation book. There is nothing in it about waking up earlier. Every law is a place to stand, and most of them you can move to this week with the phone already in your pocket.

The one thing I want back

The book came out this week, which means it has almost no reviews.

I am not going to invent any. You will not find a wall of glowing quotes with first names and cities on this site, because I made those up once in a moment of weakness and then took them down, and I am not doing it again.
